Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko said the former British Prime Minister was the right man to “share his experience of public administration” with Kiev.
Fears are rising that a peace agreement between Ukraine and pro-Russian rebels could break down resulting in a new wave of bloody fighting.
Mr Blair’s new role would add further strain on Britain’s fraught relationship with Russia.
The Ukraine government said in an official statement: “The president has invited Tony Blair to share his experience of public administration within the framework of the International Advisory Reform Council to the President of Ukraine.”
