At last summer’s End Sexual Violence in Conflict conference, co-headed by Angelia Jolie, the former foreign secretary pledged to help “end one of the greatest injustices of our time”.
The pair promised justice for the hundreds of victims of rape in the war-torn Congo – but no one has yet been prosecuted, and rates of sexual violence in the region have increased.
Tamah Murfet, of the International Rescue Committee’s women’s protection unit in the Congo, said: “Funding is very low for tackling sexual violence – across the board it has decreased.
“Major donors have dropped out of this area and it’s become very difficult to even get minimal coverage.”
