A Merseyside police sergeant allegedly engaged in a sexual act with a prostitute while on duty.
Temporary police sergeant David Gibson, 43, was today charged with misconduct in a public office after being investigated by the force’s anti-corruption unit. Mr Gibson has been suspended from duty.
A spokesman for the police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission, said: “A Merseyside Police officer has been charged with misconduct in public office.
“Temporary Police Sergeant David Andrew Gibson, 43, has been charged in relation to an allegation that whilst on duty he engaged in a sexual act with a sex worker.”
The allegation has been investigated by Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit and managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
The decision to charge was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Mr Gibson will appear before Liverpool City Magistrates’ Court on June 18.
