Warmongers in government and the media are perversely but predictably trying to conscript Aylan’s corpse into their march to escalation. They are contending that Aylan died because the West has not intervened against Syria’s dictator Bashar al-Assad, and that it must do so now to spare other children the same fate.
Um, no, Aylan’s family were Kurdish refugees from Kobani who had to flee that city when it was besieged, not by Assad, but by Assad’s enemy: ISIS.
A baby boy turned to flotsam. Washed up on the shore, face down in the mud. His family, refugees from Syria’s civil war, had tried to reach Greece, but their over-crowded raft overturned in the Mediterranean Sea and he drowned along with his brother and mother. The viral image of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi’s lifeless little body on a Turkish beach has shaken the conscience of the West and wrenched America’s attention to the refugee crisis now rocking Europe.
Newsflash to the oblivious citizenry of the power-projecting “free world”: this is what war looks like. This times ten million. That which is mere “foreign policy” to you and your government is desperation and death to those on the receiving end of it.
Children just as innocent and precious as Aylan are being driven into the sea in Libya, incinerated by drone in Pakistan, or starved to death in Yemen all the time, and it is all on your dime. And every single instance creates a sight just as aching.

From the first sudden, and quite dramatic, appearance of the fanatical Islamic group known as ISIS which was largely unheard of until a year ago, on the world’s stage and which promptly replaced the worn out and tired al Qaeda as the world’s terrorist bogeyman, we suggested that the “straight to beheading YouTube clip” purpose behind the Saudi Arabia-funded Islamic State was a simple one: use the Jihadists as the vehicle of choice to achieve a political goal: depose of Syria’s president Assad, who for years has stood in the way of a critical Qatari natural gas pipeline, one which could dethrone Russia as Europe’s dominant – and belligerent – source of energy, reaching an interim climax with the unsuccessful Mediterranean Sea military build up of 2013, which nearly resulted in quasi-world war.
The narrative and the plotline were so transparent, even Russia saw right through them. Recall from September of last year:
If the West bombs Islamic State militants in Syria without consulting Damascus, LiveLeak reports that the anti-ISIS alliance may use the occasion to launch airstrikes against President Bashar Assad’s forces, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Clearly comprehending that Obama’s new strategy against ISIS in Syria is all about pushing the Qatar pipeline through (as was the impetus behind the 2013 intervention push), Russia is pushing back noting that the it is using ISIS as a pretext for bombing Syrian government forces and warning that “such a development would lead to a huge escalation of conflict in the Middle East and North Africa.”
But it’s one thing to speculate; it’s something entirely different to have hard proof.
And while speculation was rife that just like the CIA-funded al Qaeda had been used as a facade by the US to achieve its own geopolitical and national interests over the past two decades, so ISIS was nothing more than al Qaeda 2.0, there was no actual evidence of just this.

The US House of Representatives on Thursday passed legislation that prevents states from requiring labeling of foods made with genetically engineered crops.
The bill’s supporters, including its sponsor, Representative Mike Pompeo, say genetically modified foods are safe and laws around the country would be expensive.
“Precisely zero pieces of credible evidence have been presented that foods produced with biotechnology pose any risk to our health and safety,” Pompeo, a Kansas Republican. “We should not raise prices on consumers based on the wishes of a handful of activists.”
The food and agricultural industries threw their full support behind the bill, while health and environmental groups and organic food industry players fiercely lobbied against its passage.
The bill was dubbed the “Deny Americans the Right to Know,” or DARK Act, by opponents, who say people have a right to know what is in their food and criticize any law that would take away a state’s discretion to require labels.
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter says the US might utilize the “military option” against Iran in a bid to pacify Israel after Tehran, Washington and five other world powers concluded nuclear talks in Vienna.
“We remain prepared and postured to bolster the security of our friends and allies in the region, including Israel; to defend against aggression; ensure freedom of navigation in the [Persian] Gulf; and check Iranian malign influence,” Carter said in a statement on Tuesday.
“We will utilize the military option if necessary,” the Pentagon chief added.
He is scheduled to travel to Israel next week to meet with his counterparts.
President Barack Obama noted that “Carter’s visit next week to Israel is a reflection of the unprecedented level of security cooperation between the United States and Israel, and that the visit offers a further opportunity to continue our close consultation on security issues with Israeli counterparts,” the White House said in a statement on Tuesday.
Iran and the P5+1 group of countries — the US, Britain, France, China, Russia plus Germany — reached a conclusion on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna on Tuesday.
According to the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Iran will be recognized by the United Nations as a nuclear power and will continue its uranium enrichment program.

(USA TODAY) — Along with the weather forecast and airport crowd, the national holiday checklist now routinely adds another staple: terrorist threat alert.
This July Fourth weekend is no exception, with federal intelligence agencies reminding local law enforcement “to remain vigilant during upcoming national holidays and military events due to the heightened threat of attacks.”
Such warnings around major holidays have become routine since 9/11, although federal agencies acknowledge there are no specific or credible threats to the United States this weekend.
Still, the July 4th holiday — with its patriotic symbolism — seems particularly vulnerable to possible terrorist attacks, most notably lone wolf assaults, wherever crowds gather for ballgames, concerts and firework displays.

The Russian newspaper ‘Komsomolskaya Pravda’ decided to conduct an impromptu poll in response to a similar survey conducted by an American blogger in San Diego.
American journalist Mark Dice decided to conduct a poll asking Americans to sign a petition to preemptively nuke Russia. The journalist, who is the best-selling author of ‘Inside the Illuminati’ and frequent guest on History Channel’s ‘Ancient Aliens’, conducted the poll on the beaches of Southern California.
He told people that if they sign, they show support of an alleged plan by US President Barack Obama on a preemptive nuclear strike on Russia.
Last week, former NSA intelligence analyst John Schindler posted a rather disturbing tweet. With a statement that one could only assume to be a reference towards Russia, Schindler wrote “Said a senior NATO (non-US) GOFO to me today: ‘We’ll probably be at war this summer. If we’re lucky it won’t be nuclear.’ Let that sink in.”
So who is John Schindler? As a ten-year veteran of the NSA; he was in the news a bit more when Snowden was making frequent headlines. He used to be a professor at the U.S. Naval War College, and is currently a frequent contributor to Business Insider. According to his biography on Business Insider, he used to teach classes on security, strategy, intelligence, and terrorism, and he has “collaborated closely with other government agencies who would probably prefer he didn’t mention them.” It’s safe to say that Schindler probably brushes shoulders with high-ranking officials from time to time, so his tweet should be taken seriously.

In a new military white paper published today, China vowed to increase its focus on offensive capabilities rather than its current defensive stance.
Beijing highlighted a “grave and complex array of security threats” as the reason for the switch, including its ongoing territorial row in the South China Sea.
China is determined to complete its construction of artificial reefs in the internationally disputed waters, despite protests from neighbouring countries Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Under President Obama the US has repeatedly clashed with China over its building projects in the disputed Spratly Islands, whose sovereignty are claimed by a number of nations.
Washington believes the work is being conducted with the aim of strengthening China’s claim to the vast majority of the South China Sea, increasing fears the movement of ships and aircraft in the region could soon be restricted by Beijing.
