MELBOURNE/VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – An Australian court has found Cardinal George Pell, one of the highest ranking Vatican officials and a former top adviser to Pope Francis, guilty on five charges of child sexual offences committed more than two decades ago against 13-year-old boys.

The verdict was made public on Tuesday following the lifting of a court suppression order on the trial, after a second abuse case against Pell — the most senior Catholic clergyman worldwide to be convicted for child sex offences — was dropped by the prosecution.

Pell’s lawyers have said they will appeal the verdict, which embarrassed the Vatican because it became public just two days after a major conference on preventing sex abuse. He had pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

A former high-flying soldier who used to be Prince Harry‘s bodyguard has been spared jail despite downloading child sex images.

Timothy Murfitt used search terms such as ‘toddler’, ‘kids’ and ‘baby girl pics’ when he searched for more than 10,000 disturbing images of children.

Maidstone Crown Court heard the 47-year-old former soldier was working in London when police went to his home in Sevenoaks, Kent, in April last year.

But Murfitt – who also had pictures of adults having sex with animals – was spared jail by a judge who praised him for his ‘exemplary’ military service.

Judge Martin Huseyin said: ‘Your history is remarkable. Your military record seldom reaches the levels of considerable praise that you have from those who dealt with you.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn attended a pedophilia-themed party, according to photographs surfacing online.

The Daily Caller’s Ian Miles Cheong appears to have been the first to find and publish the photos.

The now-disgraced Gunn was fired by the Walt Disney Co. last month after countless “jokes” about child rape were dug up on his Twitter account. The jokes were more than five-years-old and also mocked sensitive subjects such as AIDS, the Holocaust, Mexicans, and “ass raping” women.

As Breitbart News previously reported, these “jokes” included…

“…a post about a monkey that “jerked off” on a child, high-school kids masturbating “in front of the others to show how fun it is,” his alleged experience of doing a “reading with a convicted pedophile,” and how he wants to make a “Hollywood film adaptation of The Giving Tree with a happy ending – the tree grows back and gives the kid a blowjob.”

Former NXIVM publicist Frank Parlato said: “I was told the reason they staged the seminars on Necker was they hoped to recruit Branson into the organisation.

Branson would have been the biggest score they ever had – a billionaire businessman.”

Several group members, including co-founder Nancy Salzman, visited Necker for two seminars in 2007 and 2010. Keith Raniere did not attend either trip.

At least one of the visits is said to have been paid for by billionaire heiress and NXIVM follower Sara Bronfman, whose late father, businessman Edgar Bronfman Sr, knew Sir Richard.

She and her sister Clare are committed followers of NXIVM but there is no suggestion that any of the Bronfman family are involved in or aware of criminal activities by Raniere or his followers.
