How a can of DIET Coke makes your body store fat, rots teeth and affects you in the same way as cocaine within ONE HOUR

How a can of DIET Coke makes your body store fat, rots teeth and affects you in the same way as cocaine within ONE HOUR

A UK pharmacist has shocked fizzy drink fans by releasing a step-by-step guide to the dramatic way a can of Diet Coke affects the body from 10 minutes after the first sip until an hour later.

Niraj Naik, who runs The Renegade Pharmacist blog, has created an eye-opening infographic that exposes how the sugar-free drink can wreak havoc on everything from your teeth to your waistline.

We also speak to Ella Allred, technical nutritionist at NutriCentre for a detailed breakdown on how the soda affects your system.

In the first 10 minutes: It tricks your taste buds and attacks your teeth. The phosphoric acid attacks the enamel in your teeth, while the artificial sweeteners like aspartame hit your system. Aspartame may trigger taste receptors and tricks your body into thinking it has just had processed sugar.

Ms Allred says: ‘As soon as you taste the sweetness of Diet Coke, your body prepares for the sugar load and causes you pancreases releases insulin. The insulin surge decreases the pancreases sensitivity to insulin, putting you at risk of developing diabetes type 2. The insulin triggers your body to store fat around your middle, and increases your risk of developing heart disease.’

Beware Food Dyes Linked to Cancer, ADHD, Allergies

Beware Food Dyes Linked to Cancer, ADHD, Allergies

The food industry dumps over 15 million pounds of the dyes studied into the food supply each year. Three of the dyes carry known carcinogens, and 4 can cause serious allergic reactions in some consumers. New studies show that seven of them contributed to cancer in lab animals, including brain and testicular tumors, colon cancer, and mutations.

Many artificial food dyes contain known human and animal carcinogens. For example, one carcinogen called benzidene is found in red 40, yellow 5, and yellow 6, and although it is regulated, the FDA’s tests may be underestimating our exposure to this toxic compound. Caramel colorings, containing 2- and 4-methylimidazoles induce cancer in animals, as well. Tartrazine, a yellow “azo” dye (found in yellow 5) is genotoxic, meaning it binds to DNA and causes damage.

Here are more “highlights” of some research findings on the main colors being used in the food industry today.

Blue 2: linked to brain tumors in mice
Green 3: linked to bladder cancer back in 1981
Yellow 3: known to cause some mild allergic reactions – especially in people who are sensitive to aspirin
Yellow 6: associated with cancer of the adrenal glands and kidneys as well as possible allergic reactions
Red 3: was considered for banning in 1983 because of a possible link to thyroid tumors

Sugary drinks and junk food blamed as kids have rotten baby teeth pulled out

Sugary drinks and junk food blamed as kids have rotten baby teeth pulled out

Children as young as 18 months old are having multiple rotten teeth pulled out as parents feed toddlers soft drinks through sipper bottles, and chocolate biscuits and Milo as bedtime treats.

Dentist and veteran anti-sugar lobbyist Rob Beaglehole said he pulled several teeth on Monday from an 18-month-old, and had once treated a 2-year-old who had been drinking Coke from a baby bottle. The child’s teeth had dissolved down to the gum line and were bleeding.

Beaglehole, a father of two and principal dental officer for Nelson Marlborough District Health Board, recently extracted 11 teeth from a 3-year-old whose parents had let him drink Coke from a sipper bottle to “keep him happy”

New Zealand is the 11th largest consumer of soft drinks,  including fizzy carbonated drinks, concentrates such as cordial, juice, sports and energy drinks, bottled waters and ready-to-drink tea and coffee.

* Kiwis, on average, consume about 54 kilograms of sugar a year, equivalent to 37 teaspoons of sugar a person every day.

* In 2014 Kiwis drank a total of 518.30 million litres, up from 515m litres in 2013.

Obese people who refuse to lose weight could see benefits cut, David Cameron to announce

Obese people who refuse to lose weight could see benefits cut, David Cameron to announce

Overweight people who refuse to lose weight could see their benefits worth around £100 a week cut or suspended, David Cameron will announce.

“We must look at what we do when people simply say no thanks and refuse that help but expect taxpayers to carry on funding their benefits,” he will tell reporters during a trade visit to Singapore.

The aim of the policy will be to make sure more people seek treatment, the PM, who was described by one newspaper as “portly” when he was pictured topless on a Cornwall beach two years ago, will say.

Why It May Be Time To Stop Drinking Milk For Good

Why It May Be Time To Stop Drinking Milk For Good

At least cow’s milk that is. For how many years did the milk industry get away with touting the milk mustache as the badge of good health, providing us with all the calcium and protein we’ll ever need right? Today, the most informed researchers, both professional and casual know better. “Got Milk?” Not if you’re a pursuer of a healthy diet. Today’s processed milk is far from healthy and is essentially a dead liquid, devoid of any real nutritional value.

Twenty or more years ago, the move away from milk for most people was rooted in concerns about lactose intolerance, but today it’s the fact that plant-based alternatives are far healthier.

In recent years consuming milk has been linked to cancer, diabetes, asthma, acne and even weak and fragile bones. The alternatives, meanwhile, can be low in calories and fats, and often have the added appeal of new and interesting flavors.

In many Western countries, milk consumption has been falling since the 1970s, and due to more people informing themselves on the dangers of dairy, consumption is well below recommended levels and that is good news for public health and bad news for the milk industry. In 2010, the official Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended 2.5 cup equivalents (about 0.6 liters) of dairy products per day for children aged 4 to 8, and 3 cups for anyone over 8. Average consumption for adults in the US is at less than half the suggested intake.

Marijuana legalization petition hits enough signatures for UK parliament debate

Marijuana legalization petition hits enough signatures for UK parliament debate

A petition for the full legalization of marijuana in the UK has gathered more than 130,000 signatures in just four days, which means that the lawmakers must now consider debating it in Parliament or at least officially respond to the query.

The electronic petition, created by James Richard Owen, calls for the legalization of the production, sale and use of cannabis and currently has close to 135,000 signatures since being launched on Tuesday.

The campaign also argues that the drug is “safer than alcohol,” has been used by mankind for over 4,000 years, and was outlawed in the UK only in 1925.

Since the e-petition reached the required minimum of 100,000 signatures the MPs will now be forced to debate the declassification of the substance.

“There’s roughly three million adult [cannabis] smokers in the UK and I don’t think it’s right for the government to be criminalising such a large section of society,” Owen, an economics student at Aberystwyth University, told the Guardian.

The creator of the petition argues that UK is just wasting money on policing an issue that has been legalized in a number of countries across the world.

The lost interview with the late Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez: Chemotherapy drugs are derived from World War I nerve gas chemicals

Natural News contributor Jonathan Landsman has just publicly published a “lost” interview with Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, the holistic cancer treatment doctor who passed away earlier this week.

This video interview, never before released to the public, reveals truly mind-blowing information about the failure of chemotherapy and why holistic approaches to cancer treatment work far better than chemo.

MSG – The Industry Secret That Causes Food Addiction

MSG – The Industry Secret That Causes Food Addiction

You likely already know that the food ingredient monosodium glutamate (MSG) isn’t good for you. You may even know some of the popular reasons why. But did you know that MSG is primarily used by the food industry to keep us addicted to ‘big taste, little nutrition’ food? It’s an industry secret. Read on to find out why MSG makes you eat more fast food while fattening up the food industry’s bottom line.

Aside from high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, and ingredients made with chemicals called ‘flavor packets,’ MSG is at the top of the list of food additives to avoid.

Monosodium Glutamate, or MSG, is a trigger substance that food makers are very aware of. It was put in food to cause pavlovian response, creating a trigger for you to eat more and never feel satiated. The FDA calls MSG ‘generally recognized as safe,’ though the ingredient has been found to cause skin rashes, itching, hives, vomiting, asthma, heart irregularities, seizures, chest pain, nausea, weakness, and especially headaches and migraines, among other health issues.

Dried herbs and spices such as supermarket oregano may be ‘totally different ingredients’, says scientist

Dried herbs and spices such as supermarket oregano may be ‘totally different ingredients’, says scientist

Bottles of oregano often contained large quantities of cheaper alternatives such as olive and myrtle leaves, which look almost identical, the research carried out by Professor Elliott discovered. In some cases, as much as 70 per cent of the product was made up of the unlisted ingredients.

In other words FOOD FRAUD

Cumin

In February this year, The Independent revealed how cheap peanuts and almonds were being used in place of more expensive cumin seeds, which enhance flavour in soups, stews and processed meals. The issue was described as potentially more serious than the horsemeat scandal due to the fatal risk it posed to the UK’s 500,000 nut allergy sufferers.

Paprika

The so-called “nuts-for-spices” scandal escalated when one of the food suppliers caught up in the investigation into cumin substitutes said it also found undeclared traces of almond protein in batches of paprika. The powder, which is made from sweet and hot dried peppers, is one of the most popular ingredients in European cooking.

Researchers Uncover Connection Between Gut Health and Mood

Researchers Uncover Connection Between Gut Health and Mood

We have all heard the old adage “you are what you eat”, but science is discovering even more of a connection between our digestive tract and our overall health.

Commonly referred to as “gut health”, the gut microbiota, which consist of trillions of microbes, may influence more than bowel regularity and metabolism. These bacterium make up a 6-pound ecosystem inside of every human and produce hormones, communicate directly with our brain via the vagus nerve, and can even produce neurochemicals which influence behavior. Stomach bacteria and mood are connected in ways we never knew before, and scientists are racing to learn more about this fascinating discovery.

A team of Norwegian scientists recently found significant correlation between certain bacteria and symptoms of depression. Patients with irritable bowel syndrome have been found to have significantly higher instances of anxiety and depression. Even individuals with autism are more likely to suffer from digestive problems. By improving our gut health, we may be able to get a handle on a host of somatic and mental health symptoms.
