A woman honoured for services to a children’s charity has been accused by victims of turning a blind eye to her husband’s child abuse.
But last week, her husband was unmasked as a depraved child sex monster who preyed on his victims for 17 years.
Ex-soldier Hugh “Mitch” Mitchell was jailed for 10 years for the serial abuse of youngsters – chiefly in a bedroom-cum-dungeon in their marital home.
His victims are glad justice has finally caught up with him but they are also angry because they believe his wife, while not guilty of actual abuse, was aware of his sick behaviour, reports the Daily Record .
They pointed to the length of time the abuse was carried out, her presence at a doorstep confrontation with one victim’s parent and a paedophile-themed “novel” penned by her husband.
It emerged in court that Gill Mitchell, 59, was aware of the book’s existence for 10 years but hid it at her workplace until just before her husband was due to face trial.

Sir John Chilcot’s review into the Iraq War will finally be published next summer, having dragged on for longer than the war itself.
Massive delays to the inquiry – which has already cost £10million – had left troops’ grieving families fearing they would never learn the truth about the six-year conflict.
In response David Cameron has told Sir John he is ‘disappointed’ that his report will not be published until next summer and urged him to ‘expedite’ the final stages.
Sir John announced in a letter to Mr Cameron today that the report into the run-up to the Iraq war which cost 179 British lives, would be published by the end of July 2016.
Running to two million words, it will be completed in April and released up to three months later after a team of officials have carried out national security checking.
Sir John wrote in a letter published on the Iraq Inquiry website today: ‘We will complete that work as swiftly as possible. I consider that once National Security checking has been completed it should be possible to agree with you a date for publication in June or July 2016.
There may be a scientific reason why you can’t stop hitting that ‘snooze’ button in the mornings. It’s actually because waking from sleep before 10 a.m. is biologically unnatural.
According to Dr. Paul Kelley, an Oxford University researcher, forcing your staff to work before 10 a.m. is equivalent to the ravages of torture. Getting up earlier than 10 also seems to create illness, stress and exhaustion in employees.
In an interview with the National Post, Dr. Kelley stated that,
“Before the age of 55, the circadian rhythms of adults are completely out of sync with normal nine-to-five working hours, posing a “serious threat” to performance, mood and mental health.”

The hijacking of modern science by corporations hellbent on profiting at the expense of public health is no more evident than in published scientific literature. There, you’ll find all sorts of papers claiming that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are safe, chemicals are good for you and pharmaceuticals drugs are the only medicine worth taking — but how much of all these information are actually valid?
Back in September, it was revealed that British drug giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) doctored studies to promote its popular drug Paxil as a treatment for depression. It turns out this drug isn’t safe or effective in any way, and yet millions of young teens and children have been prescribed this mind-altering medication under the illusion that it might help them overcome mental abnormalities.
Not only were these papers exposed as fraudulent, but major news outlets like The New York Times (NYT) are reporting that they actually demonstrated the exact opposite of what their authors claimed at the time. How can this be when papers of this type are run through the peer-review process prior to publishing?
George Osborne enlisted some of Britain’s richest people in a panicked bid to save his tax credit cuts.
More than 270 peers trooped through the House of Lords last night to back the Tory Chancellor – and were allowed to claim £300 each just for turning up.
Now their names have been released in a roll call which includes some of Britain’s most prominent multi-millionaires.
Theatre bigwig and Tory peer Andrew Lloyd-Webber prompted outrage by voting after flying in from New York for work .
Billionaire Tory donor Lord Bamford, Britain’s 29th richest man, took a break from running the JCB digger empire to troop through the lobbies with his peers.
Baroness Hollis quotes real cases of people who will lose out .
Bra tycoon Michelle Mone also backed the cuts despite enjoying free travel last month in a ministerial car – where she hung out her top to dry .
George Osborne is plotting revenge on the unelected Lords after he lost the vote despite the millionaires’ help.

Strictly Come Dancing announcer Alan Dedicoat has sensationally claimed Class A drugs including cocaine and ecstasy were regularly delivered to more than half of BBC staff.
BBC Veteran Mr Dedicoat, 60, who is known as the ‘voice of the balls’ because he has announced the National Lottery since 1995, said a drug dealer delivered his wares to BBC staff at their desks.
In a taped conversation which was handed to the Sun newspaper, Mr Dedicoat can be heard discussing the drugs deliveries, even claiming some members of BBC security staff were involved.
But today Mr Dedicoat, who did not say he had ever bought or taken drugs, has now backtracked and says ‘there is no truth’ in the allegations.
On the tape, which is believed to have been recorded in Wales, he is asked how many people bought from the drug dealer.
He said: ‘Erm, At least 50 per cent, he just goes from desk to desk.’
‘The police can do nothing about the fact that he’s delivering desk to desk.’
Vegetarians are probably feeling pretty smug today, what with the World Health Organisation’s report about bacon causing cancer.
Not so fast – it turns out that rather a lot of vegetarian hot dogs have something ‘problematic’ in them, according to food lab Clear Foods.
By which they mean meat.
One in 10 vegetarian hot dogs had meat in them – including chicken in breakfast sausages, and a ‘vegetarian’ hot dog containing, er, pork.
The researchers also found an alarmingly large number of hot dogs contain human DNA – probably from hair or nails, we suspect, rather than bits of people.
Clear Food used a molecular test to analyse the hot dogs, which the lab claims can pick up traces of contamination missed by other tests.
