Real Minority Report? Hitachi unveils technology that predicts crimes before they happen

The Sci-Fi predicted future of crime prevention is here. Hitachi has unveiled a system capable of predicting crimes before they actually occur.

Dubbed Hitachi Visualization Predictive Crime Analytics (PCA), the system is able to process huge amounts of data from a variety of sources and then process it using machine-learning to establish patterns of potential violent behavior that humans might simply overlook.

“A human just can’t handle when you get to the tens or hundreds of variables that could impact crime,” Darrin Lipscomb, an executive in Hitachi’s Public Safety and Visualization division, told the Fast Company.

Hitachi acquired the technology after purchasing two crime monitoring tech companies – Avrio and Pantascene – in September 2014.

PCA uses real-time social media and internet data feeds to make calculations and pin-point potential crime scenes down to a 200-square-meter spot. The system also allocates relative threat levels to every situation.

Climate change poses risk to financial stability, says Mark Carney

Climate change poses risk to financial stability, says Mark Carney

Mr Carney, 50, who has been head of the Bank for two years, warned that insurers were exposed to each of three types of risks that climate change posed to financial industries: physical risks like floods and storms, “liability risks” from future claims and “transition risks” – financial problems linked to the move to introduce a low-carbon economy.

He added: “The challenges currently posed by climate change pale in significance compared with what might come. The far-sighted amongst you are anticipating broader global impacts on property, migration and political stability, as well as food and water security.

And I thought the whole point of  insurance companies was that they ‘take on’ risk?  What next – amandatory insurance for food and water security?

Former Scorpions Bassist Claims He Attended Elite Snuff Parties

Former Scorpions Bassist Claims He Attended Elite Snuff Parties

The former rock star Ralph Rieckermann candidly explains on camera how he attended parties where guests paid big bucks to see people get killed.

If regular people knew what the occult elite did behind closed doors, they would be horrified, terrified and completely baffled by the fact that they hold most of the world’s wealth and power. While there is a massive concerted effort to keep these truths out of the public space, sometimes some of that disgusting, stinking truth leaks out in unexpected places.

In a TMZ segment from 2012 with the former bassist of the rock band Scorpions, Ralph Riekermann admits he attended snuff parties, where guest paid over $100K to watch a live murder. And, judging by his facial expression, he was not joking. Here’s the video. (Sorry in advance for the extremely unfunny and obnoxious TMZ crap before and after the actual video footage).

At the end of the video, Riekermann says he attended another party that was so revolting that it made him want to throw up. What was he referring to? I am not sure, but I have the feeling it involved children…

How your PHONE could help test for chlamydia

How your PHONE could help test for chlamydia

A new smartphone test to detect chlamydia could reveal if you have the sexually transmitted disease within just 30 minutes, experts have said.

The first-of-a-kind portable device, which measures around six inches, has been developed by a team of scientists at Johns Hopkins University.

They hope that the prototype, known as mobiLab, will make chlamydia screening easier as well as cheaper.

Most people with chlamydia are not aware of it because the infection often causes no symptoms.

The mobiLab test, developed by Johns Hopkins University, is able to detect and diagnose chlamydia within 30 minutes, and allows doctors to perform the test in their surgeries, rather than wait for laboratory results

But if left untreated, this STD can develop into pelvic inflammatory disease and irreversibly damage a woman’s reproductive system.

UBS set to blow cover on massive gold-rigging scandal

UBS set to blow cover on massive gold-rigging scandal

With countless settlements documenting the rigging of every single asset class, it was only a matter of time before the regulators – some 10 years behind the curve as usual – finally cracked down on gold manipulation as well, even though as we have shown in the past, central banks in general and the Fed in particular are among the biggest gold manipulators.

That said, we are confident by now nobody will be surprised that there was manipulation going on in the gold casino.

In fact, ever since Germany’s Bafin launched a probe into Deutsche Bank for gold and silver manipulation, it has been very clear that the only question is how many banks will end up paying billions to settle the rigging of the gold market (with nobody going to prison as usual, of course).

Earlier today, we learned that the Swiss competition watchdog just became the latest to enjoin the ongoing gold manipulation probe when as Reuters reported, it launched an investigation into possible collusion in the precious metals market by several major banks, it said on Monday, the latest in a string of probes into gold, silver, platinum and palladium pricing.

Vitamin C may Be ‘Just As Effective as Exercise’ for Heart Health

Vitamin C may Be ‘Just As Effective as Exercise’ for Heart Health

While you shouldn’t eschew the gym in favor of a glass of OJ, it isn’t a bad idea to indulge in some vitamin C if you can’t fit a workout into your busy day. New research has found that vitamin C can give you the similar heart-health benefits as regular exercise.

Obese adults are advised to exercise in order to protect their health, as is everyone, but even after being told that a workout might save their lives, only 50% take the advice. The research conducted at the University of Colorado Boulder found that vitamin C supplementation may protect individuals even if they don’t hit the gym.

Specifically, vitamin C supplements, which have been reported to improve vessel function, can also lower ET-1 activity. (The blood vessels of overweight and obese adults have elevated activity of the small vessel-constricting protein endothelin (ET)-1)).

The researchers found that daily supplementation of vitamin C (500 mg/day, time-released) reduced ET-1-related vessel constriction as much as walking did. The researchers found that vitamin C supplementation represents an effective lifestyle strategy for reducing ET-1-mediated vessel constriction in overweight and obese adults.

Babies set to be treated for obesity in the WOMB

Babies set to be treated for obesity in the WOMB

Babies could be medicated in the womb to stop them from being born obese, doctors say.

They believe that giving overweight mothers-to-be a hormone pill could also improve the unborn child’s health well for decades to come.

The controversial idea comes amid growing concern about the toll the obesity crisis is having on pregnancies.

Around half of British women of childbearing age are overweight and more than 15 per cent of pregnant women are obese.

Their babies are more likely than average to be fat themselves as children and are at higher risk of diabetes and heart disease in adulthood.

As a result, many experts believe that improving conditions in the womb could have lifelong benefits to health.
